The Mirror Game – Building Focus, Empathy & Presence with Teacher Emil
In this lesson, I teach one of my favourite foundational drama exercises for children — The Mirror Game.
The Mirror Game develops:
✔ Focus and concentration
✔ Body awareness and control
✔ Observation skills
✔ Emotional sensitivity
✔ Leadership and followership
✔ Trust between partners
Children quickly realise that this game is not about being silly or fast. It is about control, awareness, and connection.
When leading, they learn responsibility.
When following, they learn humility and attention.
When switching roles, they learn balance.
I also share how I gradually increase the challenge — slowing movements down, removing the obvious leader, or encouraging silent communication — so children begin to feel rather than just copy.
